Travel Insurance and the Easter Getaway
Holidaymakers Planning Their Time Away in the Coming Month
It is no secret that people like to plan their getaways around bank holiday weekends and this month there will plenty of opportunities for holidaymakers to get away from home. The AA, however, has released its own predictions concerning who will be going away and when – and on top of that they revealed that a lot of people are still not planning to take out travel insurance. It means that plenty of holidaymakers are foregoing peace of mind in favour of saving money during their time away.
First of all the bank holiday period – according to the AA/Populus poll they have discovered that around 85% of people are planning to stay within the United Kingdom when the bank holiday period rolls around. They cite the political situations in North Africa and the Middle East as possible reasons, however, the threat of airline strike action is also a factor, with news reports recently advising customers of the benefits of the right travel insurance in such situations. Of all of the weekends, they predict that the Easter bank holiday will be the busiest with people going away.
The response of 85% of people staying in the UK for Easter was matched with the Royal Wedding weekend and with the May bank holiday. The figures vary across the country but all in all a lot of people will therefore be using their cars during the holidays and so those planning time away will have to contend with heavy traffic on certain days.
According to the AA as many as 24% of people will not be taking out travel insurance. Of course the reasons behind this will relate to money-saving in difficult economic times, but all insurers are likely to warn that this does not replace peace-of-mind – not to mention money will be saved in the long term should someone need to make a claim.
But those taking out travel insurance should always check the small-print. After all not everything is covered in every policy – just as outlets warned earlier in the month when the threat of BA strike action was in the news. Strike action is not always covered by travel insurance and so policy holders should always check to see if such circumstances will affect them negatively.
