However, in search of more personal care which can be received much quicker, or to help with expensive but necessary day to day occurrences such as eye tests and dentist checkups, many more people are deciding that health insurance may well be the way to go- the real battle is to keep your finances in a healthy state whilst getting a policy which is right for you and your family.
Health insurance can really be confusing because there are simply so many different types of policies out there. There are ones which will cover you comprehensively and then there are various other types which will only cover specific things; such as dental insurance or operation insurance. Also, the types of policies which will be available to you, and indeed the types of policies which you will want to take out, will vary depending on your age and your medical history. If you sadly suffer from a chronic illness or are older then you will be involved with a different type of policy, and indeed will likely have to pay more, than if you were young and fit and healthy. When going for health insurance, you need to prepare yourself for the fact that some of the questions may well be quite personal and quite intrusive.
You will need to give any prospective company a full list of your medical history and any problems which you may have encountered in the past; this helps your insurance firm to determine how likely it is that you will become ill in the future and thus how much they should really be charging you. If they think they are likely going to have to pay out for a lot of private hospital care then your premiums will naturally be higher- it may seem harsh but that is how all insurance works whether it’s for a person, a pet or a car. Also, whilst the temptation may be there to bend the truth a little bit or to play down past ailments in an attempt to lessen the cost of your insurance plan, you should always tell the truth on a form- it is a legally binding document and, if the information you give cannot be verified and it turns out that you have lied then you will lose your cover and will likely not recuperate any costs.
Many people associate health insurance with going private, with going to a big health company and having private treatment every time it is needed and yet the umbrella term of health insurance covers much more ground than that; it refers to things like dentists as well. Even NHS dentists now charge certain demographics of people for treatment and, at nearly twenty pounds just for a routine check-up, this can be a very large expense which few people can easily afford- health insurance or a health plan purchased through an insurance company, can help spread the costs of these necessary procedures and, especially if you have a large family, make it that little bit easier to keep everyone fit and healthy.
You should, however, check your individual policy to see what is and what is not covered. Some policies will cover everything, some will not. Very few will cover treatments which are not considered essential. What this means is that cosmetic procedures which are undergone through choice rather than through health-necessity will not be covered under any plan. Only emergency procedures or necessary health checkups and M.O.T’s will be covered- if you thought that getting a health care plan might help you to spread the cost of your breast augmentation or your tummy tuck then sadly this is not the case- you will have to consider other routes of financing your venture to gain a better body.
Ultimately, as long as you arm yourself with the facts and are prepared to meet monthly payments, there will be an insurance policy out there which will help protect the health of you and your family; you shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting to go private either. When you and your families health and happiness is at stake there really is no amount of money which can be quoted that could ever be too high.
